The Blue Sharpie Easter of 2009

Part of our reason for coming as a family to London was to experience different things and show the girls that there are different customs, traditions, and ways of doing things all over the world. London has certainly shown us a different way to celebrate Easter!

There aren't ANY Easter baskets, egg dying kits, Easter grass, white eggs to dye, big chocolate bunnies, Reese's peanut butter eggs, Peeps, plastic fill-able eggs or Easter Egg Hunts! Those are kinda the basics of our American Easter! What is big here is a big formal dinner of lamb or fish. The kids seem to get one large chocolate egg and there are Easter Egg trails where kids look for tokens and then turn them in for a small bag of chocolate.

We attempted to dye Easter eggs with food coloring and vinegar, but first I had to find eggs that aren't brown, not an easy task. I was able to find pale pastel eggs. We took a shot at dying the eggs, but the dye didn't want to stick.
The "dyed" eggs- hah!
After experimenting with different ratios of dye, vinegar, and water... the kitchen reeked of vinegar and still no colored eggs, so we called it quits and decorated the remaining eggs with a blue Sharpie marker!

V collecting flowers for an Easter centerpiece. We did find some plastic baskets at a local junk store and they were excellent Easter baskets! The girls were beyond excited and I heard 7 year old feet check to see if the Easter Bunny had indeed visited at the ripe hour of 3am.
One of my favorite bunnies...

Easter Morning- we took the preventative method of pulling all the shades in their room and they slept in until about 8am- nice.
N found her basket!
Where are those eggs?!
L found a baby

Kinda hard to bite into with the front 3 teeth missing!
We made new memories and will forever remember the Blue Sharpie Easter of 2009. I'll just have to eat twice as many Reese cup eggs next year to make up for the lack of them this year!

Easter Natlieisms-
  • We were talking about heaven and N commented, "Yeah, it's up in the sky, but you can't see the dead bodies when you go into space."
  • N asked, "Did the Easter Bunny have any babies?"
